My Story

Sassy came to us as a stray in 1993. We were only looking after her for a few days while her owners could be found. It was obvious somebody had lost her as she was in good condition and had basic obedience training .( I think she was just really smart ) . When no one answered the ads in the paper and and she wasn't claimed, it was time to take her to the pound. But it was to late, Sassy and  I were in love. Her Dad did not want her to stay, and said he wanted nothing to do with her. He had never had a dog in his life, but boy did that change. It wasn't long before she was inside with us and running the house. We both utterly adored her. We went everywhere together and she couldn't wait until we got home from work so she could do the thing she loved most. WALK. She would get her lead and sit by the front door, and let us know in no uncertain terms if we were taking to long. She loved the beach and long bush walks and never went anywhere without a toy in her mouth. She was so funny. If she heard a noise or something that needed investigating she would grab a toy and take off. It was like the toy gave her protection in some way or kept her safe, it was comical to watch her trying to bark with a mouth full of toy. After a while we moved to Queensland onto acerage. Sassy didn't much care for it and preferred to stay in the  house near us. The biggest shock for Sassy came when the baby arrived.  It didn't take her long and she was soon  taking over the motherly duties. She would sit for hours beside the cot or pram protecting the precious cargo. As the baby grew Sassy was delighted to have a new playmate and the two became inseperable. But as our beloved Sassy got older she needed a few operations for different things. The last was an operation to remove a tumor. We didn't know how long we had left with her, but thought it would be longer than we had. Unfortunately, more  tumors started to form until one burst unexpectantly. We rushed her to the vet but was told it would be better to say our goodbyes now. Sassy died as she lived, surrounded by a family who loved her. We will never forget her beautiful nature and gentle ways. Thanks Sassy for everyday and all the joy you brought to us.
